Hi, i'm Jake!

(He/They)

I’m a neurodivergent and LGBTQIA+ affirming psychotherapist living and learning on Dharug land - Sydney. I take a down-to-earth, creative approach to therapy, meeting you where you’re at. In our sessions, we’ll look at your experiences with care and curiosity, focusing on what matters to you. My hope is that you feel seen, understood, and more connected to yourself along the way.

Here are some of the areas we can explore:

Trauma

Trauma comes in all shapes and sizes. Whether it's deep-rooted stuff from childhood, patterns that have been passed down, or experiences that have stuck with you, we can work through it, at your own pace.

Neurodiversity

If you’re living with ADHD, autism, or any other neurodivergence, this space is here for you, even if you’ve only recently started to understand this about yourself. I work with who you are, and use a neurodivergent affirming approach.

Identity

If you’re exploring your gender, sexuality, or personal identity, I am LGBTQIA+ affirming and aim to create a non-judgmental space to figure out who you are - at your own pace, and in your own way.

Depression and Anxiety

When it feels like your brain is on a constant loop of overwhelming thoughts, therapy can help you break that cycle. We’ll try find ways to manage stress and anxiety and help you regulate your nervous system.

Creativity

As a musician myself, creativity is at my core. So, For those who connect best through creativity, we’ll use music, nature, and other creative methods to make therapy a space that feels comfy.

Relationships

Relationships can be complicated and confusing, whether it’s with family, friends, or partners. Therapy can give you a chance to untangle this, figure out what’s working, and what’s not, and find a way to relate to others that feels authentic.

  • How much do your sessions cost?
I offer 50-minute sessions for $120, available for both online and "Therapy in Motion" in the Canterbury/Bankstown and Sutherland Shire areas of Sydney. I believe that therapy should be accessible to everyone, regardless of financial circumstances, and I understand that this rate may not work for everyone. If the cost is a barrier for you, please don’t hesitate to reach out—we can have a chat about finding a way to make therapy more affordable. My goal is to support as many people as possible within their means.
  • Can I use a Mental Health Care Plan or Medicare rebate for sessions?
As a registered counsellor, I’m not eligible to offer Medicare rebates, which are typically available when working with a psychologist under the government’s subsidised sessions. However, seeing a counsellor without a Medicare rebate can have some distinct benefits: Without the constraints of a Medicare plan, you have the freedom to schedule as many sessions as you need, at a frequency that suits you, without being limited to a set number of subsidised sessions per year. Counselling focuses on the therapeutic relationship and creating a tailored approach for each individual, which can be beneficial for long-term personal growth beyond immediate symptom relief. Unlike some Medicare-supported services, counselling does not require a formal mental health diagnosis. This can be helpful for those seeking support without the need for labelling, or who wish to explore personal growth, life challenges, or identity questions in a supportive environment.
  • What is psychotherapy?
Psychotherapy is a process of self-discovery and personal growth that involves a supportive, collaborative relationship between you and the therapist. I see therapy as a space where we can explore life’s essential questions - meaning, relationships, identity, and purpose - in a way that is human and connected.
  • What is your therapeutic style?
My style is collaborative, attachment based and person-centered, focusing on building a strong therapeutic relationship. That's a lot of buzzwords but basically means I use a blend of styles. If we find one that works better for you we can focus on that. I have an interest in using somatic experiencing as well as creativity such as art and music in session. I believe in recognising and respecting the diverse ways people think and experience the world. I am neurodivergent myself and use a neurodiversity-affirming approach, acknowledging that differences in perception and behaviour are not things that need to be fixed. This means we’ll work together to honour your unique perspective and navigate your challenges in a way that feels right for you. As a queer person, I understand the impact of navigating identity in a world that often struggles to embrace difference. My lived experience helps me bring empathy and openness to our work, creating a space where you can explore your identity, relationships, and challenges without judgment.
  • Do you have a cancellation policy?
If you need to cancel or reschedule, please provide at least 48 hours’ notice. Cancellations made less than 48 hours before your session will incur a fee of 50% of the session cost. No-shows or cancellations on the day of the session will be charged the full session fee. In the case of emergencies or unforeseen circumstances, I’m happy to discuss exceptions on an individual basis. You can cancel or reschedule by contacting me via email or phone.
  • What is "Therapy in Motion"?
Therapy in Motion is just a fancy name I’ve given to the simple idea of being outside while talking to your therapist. It’s commonly called walk and talk therapy, but I like to think of it as a more flexible, relaxed way to do therapy without the four walls of an office. It’s all about moving and talking, like strolling through a park, or just being present in nature. This approach combines the benefits of physical movement and nature with the healing power of a good conversation. For many people, being on the move helps them feel more relaxed, clear-headed, and grounded - especially if you find clinical settings overwhelming or if sitting still for too long is a challenge. Sessions are totally flexible to suit you. We can adjust the pace, location, or even the approach depending on what feels right for you. It’s a no-pressure, inclusive way to work through things, with nature included. If you’re unsure if it’s right for you, please book a consult call or use my contact form, and we can chat about whether this approach is a good fit for your needs.
  • Where are you located?
I currently offer my services online and through "Therapy in Motion" in the Canterbury/Bankstown and Sutherland Shire areas of Sydney.
  • Do I need a GP referral to see you?
No, you don’t need a referral from a GP to book a session with me. You can contact me directly to set up an appointment. This allows for a more accessible and straightforward approach to starting therapy whenever you feel ready.
